Contend earnestly for your purpose – Part 2
‘But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.’ – Acts 20:24
There’s an old saying: ‘If you love your job you’ll never work a day in your life.’ That’s not quite true. Most people work hard. But even when they love their job they still have to do things they don’t like to do. They give effort above and beyond what’s comfortable. It’s probably more accurate to say that if you’re doing something you believe in, the hard work you do will bring you deep satisfaction.
Some people think that arriving at a certain place in life will bring them happiness. But the reality is that many times when they arrive, they discover that it wasn’t what they expected. If you become fixated on a destination, you can miss the great things that happen along the way. You miss the joy of today. If you’re convinced that ‘someday’ is going to be your best day, you won’t put enough into today – or get enough out of it. If you’re not doing something significant with your life, it doesn’t matter how long it is. It’s not enough just to survive, you need a reason to live. This is where Christ comes in: He will give you new life, and add purpose to your life – plus the power to fulfill that purpose. D. L. Moody once said, ‘Let God have your life; He can do more with it than you can.’
Father, I surrender my life to You. My life is no longer my own. All of my wants, ambitions and desires I now lay at the foot of the cross where I was ransomed for, bought with a price and redeemed from the curse of sin. I fully trust You with my family, career, children, my finances and I will be faithful to put Your Word above all else in my life. Every blessing received is not by accident, or luck. But I receive grace by the mercies of You Lord. Forgive me for making idols and putting other things and people before You. Let there be no hindrances from Your anointing flowing in my life. Let me discover my purpose, my specific assignment from You God while I am here on this earth. Let nothing come before You God. Not my house, my family, entertainment or friends. Forgive me God for making my salvation based on other people or outside sources. My salvation
comes from You in whom I put my trust. Teach me, guide me and instruct me to build my life on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, The Lord, and lead me into my purpose, that my life may be used to extend Your love to the broken and hurting. Let my life be an instrument that You can tune to Your desire. Let me be pliable clay in the Potter’s hands. I humble myself before You now in total surrender, allowing You entrance to every corner of my heart, soul and mind. Let me be found in You and You in me, as I am a new creation in Christ Jesus created for good works. Let not my life be wasted or just take up space, but birth in me a deep desire to not only follow You, but also to do Your will and in so discovering my life’s purpose. Thank You for Your goodness toward me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
