Contend earnestly to overcome
‘For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.’ – 1 John 5:4
When your health, your finances or family are at risk, you suddenly realize how fragile life is. You’ll discover that things like power, possessions and popularity won’t sustain you. Earthly supports can
only sustain you so long. Courage for living comes from a deep abiding trust in God, whose Word says, ‘This is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith.’
David said, ‘Through You we push back our enemies; through Your name we trample our foes’ (Ps. 44:5 NIV). Jesus said, ‘I have given you authority to … overcome all the power of the enemy’ (Luke 10:19 NIV). Paul said, ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us’ (Rom. 8:35-37 NIV).
Jesus, there is power in Your name. Power to overcome, power to breakthrough any famine, fear or oppression. I speak Your name over my life, and over my children’s lives. Like a banner wherever I go, the name of Jesus is written on my heart. I am Yours and no weapon formed against me shall prosper. Not even my own human weaknesses or lack of faith. You are faithful to cause me to will and to do what pleases You. Now I speak Your name to those circumstances. I speak Your name to the mountains of the impossible. I speak Your name over my health, family and finances. In Your name I will live and will not die, I will overcome, I will breakthrough! Because at Your name every knee of fear and depression must bow. Every doubting thought I now take captive by the Word of God and in Your name I am liberated from the weight of the world and from any stress that has been weighing me down. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Thank You Jesus for the power to overcome every obstacle standing in front of me. Thank You for Your faithfulness and goodness toward me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
