Contend earnestly for courage
‘Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.’ – Deuteronomy 31:6
When Joshua became the leader of God’s people after Moses, he received the great task to bring God’s people to the promised land. He could have been overwhelmed by this enormous assignment. But God encouraged him with the words: ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go’ (Joshua 1:9).
God opened the Jordan river, so all the people could cross the river. He gave Joshua a specific and unusual strategy to defeat the great city of Jericho. The people had to walk around the city wall for seven days. And by God’s power the enormous walls collapsed. With God’s help, Joshua has conquered and taken de cities one by one. The people could enjoy the fruitful land that God has promised
long before to Abraham and his descendants.
Don’t we have the same God as Joshua? Isn’t God the same yesterday, today and forever? If God used Joshua to lead His people into the promised land, doesn’t He want to use us to bring the people salvation through Jesus Christ? Yes, there are many people in this world who are in misery. God wants to reach these people with His love. And He wants to use you to reach them. Banish all fear and doubt. Be strong and courageous, for with Jesus we are more than conquerors! He is with you and will help you in everything.
Father, I thank You that You are with me wherever I go. That You hedge me in before and behind and that Your favor and protection is upon me. Give me the courage Lord, to fight through the tough situations I am up against. Cause me to be brave in the face of adversity and fight for Your promises and plans for my life. Strengthen my faith Lord! Wherever there is any unbelief in my mind or my heart, I pray by the blood of Jesus that You would remove that stronghold that holds me back from moving forward in my faith and becoming the man/woman of God You have called me to be. Your Word says, ‘Those who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ So right now God, I call on the name of Jesus to remove any hindrances that are stopping me from receiving from You. Let my faith be authentic and genuine. That whatever word You have spoken over my life, it will come to pass and I will see Your hand upon my life, my family and my work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
