When you think of Christian alternative rock music, Switchfoot is by far the first band that will come to mind. This supreme status was perhaps the biggest reason why fans from all over the world were shocked by the band’s announced hiatus in 2017 after ten successful album releases.
The band originates from San Diego, where brothers Tim and Jon Foreman founded it in 1996 under the name Chin Up. Later Chad Butler joined them on the drums, along with Jerome Fontamillas on the keys and Drew Shirley as the lead guitarist.
On March 30 in 2018 the band announced that they had come out of their hiatus and hinted that “Project 11” was in the making. Nothing seemed to be less true, because this week the band released their eleventh studio album called “Native Tongue.”
The album consists of an interesting mix of tracks with the familiar Switchfoot sounds that we all know and a new experimental journey to find a rejuvenated sound. They show that they’re still relevant and capable of captivating new audiences today. It definitely sounds interesting.
