Two years after their first self-titled album, We Are Messengers has dropped their second big music release. Their newest EP bears the name “Honest,” and continues their transparent songwriting style. The EP is a combination of new songs and the already successful radio hit “Maybe It’s OK.”
Lead singer and guitarist Darren Mulligan founded the band. Darren wasn’t a Christian his whole life. His life story started in his native Ireland. As a child from a blue-collar family, he regularly encountered hardships in life. Growing up, he describes himself as selfish and filled with depravity and desperation. However, in that time he was active as a guitarist in a fairly successful rock band. He even had the opportunity to profess his musical talent throughout the United States during that period of his life.
During his tours in the USA, he got a message from his girlfriend from Ireland. She told him that she became a Christian. “I hated the thought of her being happy; because she sounded happy, while I was miserable”, Darren says. He immediately went back to Ireland and asked her to marry him and she said yes. She also started praying that Darren would have a life-changing encounter with God, and that is exactly what happened. Three weeks before their wedding, Mulligan had a life-altering experience in church, after which he gave his life fully to God.
Initially he didn’t have any musical plans anymore, but God works in miraculous ways. There was a youth-conference and he needed to fill in for one of the guitarists. It all resulted in him being part of the band for much longer than he intended, and even as a singer, which he had never done publicly before. With a renewed mission he went back to USA to create and share Christian music under the name “We Are Messengers.” It all resulted in much success and now their second big release, “Honest,” has become reality.
