Micha Maasbach, leader of the MAP Band and gifted songwriter for MAP and Maasbach Worship is solo-touring the Netherlands! Maasbach Radio had the pleasure of joining Micha in Amsterdam for one of his concerts and got to hang out with him for a little bit – the interview will be posted in a seperate update! Here’s a little inside info on the evening and the world of Micha Maasbach.
Before the concert starts we meet Micha and Stephen at the door, where they’re welcoming all the people that are coming in. It’s an intimate set-up with candles and a little elevated platform where Micha will be sitting with one of his guitars. “The guitar sitting on one side of the platform is tuned differently and the one on the other side of the platform is for back-up purposes”, he explains. Stephen will be accompanying Micha throughout the night with his serious skills of rythm and beats. The drummer for MAP band and Maasbach Worship brought his own setup of percussion instruments.
When the concert starts, everybody immediately eases into the calm and wonderful atmosphere of worship. We see some closing their eyes and simply relaxing in Gods presence. Instead of taking notes, we decide to do the same and we join Micha in a journey through song, scripture and testimony. Every song in the repertoire has a special story and Micha doesn’t seem to hesitate when it comes to sharing his heart in the story. At one point he got a little emotional, sharing a precious childhood memory and how it inspired his song ‘Ik wacht op U, o Heer’ meaning: ‘I wait on You, O Lord’. A touching moment, which we’ll highlight in our interview with him.
Two songstory’s included a funny sidenote. These particular songs were actually written for other Maasbach productions: Maasbach Musicals and Maasbach Worship. The songs didn’t make it on the original project it was written for, “but”, Micha says: “that actually makes me kind of happy, cause now I can use it for my solo-tour. Which is awesome!”
During the concertbreak we see Micha hanging out in the crowd and talking to everyone who came. “He likes to mingle with the people”, Stephen tells us. This ‘family’-kind of feel is exactly how we would describe the evening. After the evening you feel like you actually know Micha. We love how he made it feel so personal and yet the center of it all is and remains: God.
So after this evening of music with Micha Maasbach we go home with a fulfilled and happy heart except for one thing.. we can’t wait to get our hands on a Micha Maasbach solo album! Read Micha’s response here.← BackNext →
